In Hawaiian, mālama means “to care for,” usually in the sense of caring for, nurturing, and preserving the earth and community. It’s about showing up to do your part to help the land or lift the people around you.
Wildfires devastated the island of Maui in August 2023, but the spirit of mālama lives in the ongoing efforts to rebuild homes, lives, and communities.
I’m Sarita Rich, an artist and mama in Honolulu, and these are my children: Stella, Sophie, and Dylan, (and Pickles Yamamoto, the guinea pig). We asked some of our young artist friends to help us do a small good thing for Maui. We spent spring break in our Art Room, painting our favorite plants of Hawai‘i and now our tiny paintings are greeting cards that will make their way around the world spreading aloha and good vibes wherever they go.
We’re donating all the proceeds from our sales to Maui United Way, one of many organizations working to helping survivors receive trauma-informed therapy, stable housing, employment, and safe recreation.
Mahalo for joining us!
